Daisey Gaspar Samayoa is the student ambassador for the Carolina Higher Education
Opportunity Programs (CHEOP) Office. She oversees programs such as Project Uplift and Uplift
PLUS. Originally from Siler City, North Carolina, Daisey is a senior at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. She majors in Human Development and Family Science with a
concentration in Child and Family Health and minors in Education and Health & Society.
Her interest in CHEOP began in 2018 her sophomore year of high school when she
participated in Upward Bound and Project Uplift. She later became an Upward Bound counselor
and lead counselor for Project Uplift and Uplift PLUS. Daisey plans to pursue a career working
with diverse communities. She is passionate about mentorship and expanding access to
educational resources, especially for underrepresented and first-generation students.
Daisey applies these passions through her work on and off campus. She is an intern for
the UNC Center for Student Success, where she implements first-generation programming. She
also works as the programming assistant for CORA Food Pantry, helping oversee programs that
aim to build a community without hunger in Chatham County. In her free time, Daisey enjoys
playing tennis, volunteering, and spending time with her family.
